Roles in the Mitosis Network

Roles in the Mitosis Network

At Mitosis, roles aren't just labels—they're signals of trust, participation, and progression. Every Mitosian has a path to recognition, whether you're a DeFi explorer, creative contributor, active chatter, or on-chain participant. Our comprehensive role system offers everyone the chance to develop their skills, make a real impact, and potentially become a community leader.

Understanding Our Role System

Our role system is structured across two distinct layers:

  1. Community-Driven & On-Chain Roles: These roles form the social and identity backbone of the Mitosis ecosystem, earned through consistent contributions in Discord, peer recognition and governance, or on-chain actions like NFT holding or LP participation.

  2. Token-Gated Roles: Special roles based on the tokens or NFTs you hold across supported chains, verified and claimed via the 🔮・role-verify channel on Discord.

Community-Driven & On-Chain Roles
Access & Entry Roles

These roles are automatically granted when you read key onboarding content and participate in conversation, confirming you're an active participant in our ecosystem.

🧪 Mitosian

Auto-assigned after completing onboarding basics:

⚠️ Spamming to game the system results in timeout or ban.

This role confirms you're an active participant—not a bot—and unlocks access to broader community channels.

🛤 Settler

Grants access to core Mitosis community spaces and discussions.

Earned by:

  • Accumulating Karma through helpful or meaningful participation
  • Receiving a nomination from existing members
  • Holding an official contributor role (e.g., Intern Artist, Analyst, etc.)

Settlers are trusted explorers of the Mitosis network—recognized for their consistency and engagement.

Community Leadership Pathway

Sensei Progression Overview

Sensei Progression Overview

This pathway offers a clear progression towards becoming a Sensei, consisting of three distinct leadership roles:

🪻 Gakusei (学生) - The Learner

Assigned by Senseis to new, active contributors. This is the entry-level recognition for consistent engagement and early promise in the community.

Path to Gakusei:

  • Engage in discussions and participate in community events
  • Help fellow members when possible with a focus on continuous learning and growth
  • Demonstrate meaningful contributions through active participation and positive engagement

Gakusei are newcomers who've shown enough initiative to earn guidance and visibility from our leadership team. Unlike previous requirements, Senseis evaluate contributors based on their overall engagement and potential rather than specific metrics.

🔸 Daigakusei (大学生) - The Contributor

Earned through sustained activity and positive community feedback. Daigakusei are rising contributors whose consistent activity has caught the attention of leadership.

Requirements:

  • Maintain the Gakusei role for at least 2 weeks
  • Demonstrate consistent engagement through sustained activity and positive community feedback
  • Show leadership potential and community impact

Selection Process:

  • Selection occurs during bi-weekly Sensei-led evaluations and voting rounds
  • Senseis review active Gakusei members who have shown consistent contribution patterns
  • Advancement is based on merit, community impact, and leadership potential

As a Daigakusei, you'll provide in-depth assistance to Gakusei members, contribute original content and ideas, and help organize community projects.

🧘 Sensei (先生) - The Master

A formal leadership role within the community, reserved for exceptional community leaders who have consistently demonstrated their expertise, commitment, and ability to foster a positive community environment.

Requirements:

  • Maintain an active Daigakusei role for at least 2 weeks
  • Regularly provide high-quality contributions to the community, demonstrated through consistent valuable engagement and leadership activities
  • Must receive a nomination from an existing Sensei
  • Must earn ≥ 50% approval vote during the review round

Selection Process:

  • Nominations occur every 2 weeks from existing Senseis, community moderators, or team members
  • Existing Senseis initiate nomination polls in designated threads with specific examples of the nominee's impact
  • Reviews are merit-based, considering overall community impact and leadership potential
  • Final selection through voting process involving existing Senseis and selected community leaders

Senseis guide the community, vote on nominations, mentor others through Morse-powered initiatives, represent us in external collaborations, and develop key initiatives.

Special Recognition Roles
🧑‍🏫 Emeritus Sensei

A special status for past Senseis who stepped back from active leadership duties but remain respected for their contributions. Emeritus Senseis are the retired stewards of our network whose legacy remains encoded.

🧬 Mitosis OG

Appointed by core admins and granted to long-term contributors and Senseis who've demonstrated sustained excellence and impact over time. These are the backbone of the Mitosis community—stable, consistent, and deeply trusted.

💎 The Royal Gem

Also admin-appointed and awarded to standout contributors who have both Mitosis OG status and a history of exceptional contributions. Revoked after extended inactivity. The rarest distinction—only granted to those who've helped define the shape and soul of Mitosis.

Community/Content Contributor Roles

These contribution-based roles are assigned through Sensei voting or Admin nomination, recognizing distinct types of value-added participation within the Mitosis ecosystem.

🧩 Guru

Awarded to top chat participants based on consistency, helpfulness, and high-quality engagement. Gurus are the heartbeat of conversations—active, reliable, and always present in the flow.

🎨 Intern Artist / miArtist

Granted to contributors who produce visual media: art, memes, stickers, banners, and creative design elements used across Mitosis campaigns. If you've ever seen Morse turned into a masterpiece, an Intern Artist was likely behind it.

📹 Intern Tuber / miTuber

Awarded to creators of educational or promotional video content, including explainers, recaps, walkthroughs, and motion graphics. The narrators of the ecosystem—bringing Mitosis to life in motion.

📊 Intern Analyst / miAnalyst

Given to those who provide DeFi, NFT, or ecosystem analytics, often including dashboards, charts, comparative breakdowns, or governance impact insights. Analysts see beyond the surface and help the community track what matters most.

🐦 Intern Evangelist / miEvangelist

Focused on Twitter/X threads, campaign support, and public engagement. Evangelists push the Mitosis message to broader audiences—they don't just spread the word, they amplify it.

🧪 Intern Consultant / miConsultant

Contributors who give actionable feedback on UX/UI, product features, and community tooling. Known for smart suggestions and process refinement. Consultants keep the gears turning and help Mitosis move smoother, faster, better.

🐶 Pro Yapper / miYapper

Granted to those who win or lead Mitosis' Yap-related campaigns (including meme drives, Discord sprints, or tweetstorms). Pro Yappers know how to spark virality—and Morse always notices.

  2. Distribute karma to at least one user per week
  3. Participate in nomination discussions at least once every two weeks, including:
    • Contributing to nominations or promoting others for contribution-based roles
    • Voting on nominations using the provided poll system

Path to Reactivation

Emeritus Senseis can regain active status through demonstrated renewed engagement:

  2. Engagement Period: Demonstrate renewed active engagement over 4 weeks through discussions, helping members, and contributing to projects
  3. Praise Giving: Give at least 15 high-quality praises to community members during the engagement period
